The Patient 2022- 2023
In September of 2022, I was diagnosed with blood cancer, MDS. I underwent chemotherapy treatment in Northampton for six months in order to prepare for a much larger process.
In March 2023 I entered the Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant department at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Through the international Red Cross, a donor was sought and found in Argentina. The donor marrow, being a very close match was flown into Boston on March 15th, 2023. That afternoon the donated bone marrow was injected into my body in order to switch out my unhealthy bone marrow.
After 5 weeks in a hospital bed, I was released and got to go home. Being very weak and fatigued, I am forevermore grateful to my three children who were my steady caretakers and supported me in order to get my strength back.
I am eternally grateful to my family and friends who supported me through this difficult time.
My medical team at Coolie Dickinson Hospital in Northampton and at Massachusetts General Hospital gave me the best care and friendships.
