My Icelandic foremothers lived in a country of poverty, cold and windy weather and lack of possessions. They carried the wash to rivers and hot springs, they hand-made and darned their family's clothing, they made the food over a fire in the kitchen. They lived and survived through centuries of hardship – I am one of them.
